Consultation at the National Council: Slovenia and CERN
On Friday, 31 January 2025, the National Council hosted a panel discussion entitled 'Slovenia and CERN: Opportunities for Science, the Economy and International Prestige'.
The panel was moderated by Prof. Dr. Stane Pejovnik and Mag. Peter Volasko.
The consultation was organised to mark Slovenia's full membership of CERN. The discussion covered the benefits and opportunities that full membership of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) could bring to science and the economy. Slovenia still needs to complete the formal membership procedures.
We are publishing recordings of the consultation.

Representatives of science and business emphasised the numerous advantages of full membership.
The main advantages for Slovenian scientists are:
- direct access to world-class research infrastructure;
- more intensive participation in international research projects;
-Younger researchers will have the opportunity to develop their research competencies and gain access to infrastructure and training programmes, strengthening the Slovenian scientific community in the long term.
-Direct access to CERN's wider research networks will make it easier for our researchers to participate in international projects and collaborate with leading scientists.
The main advantages for Slovenian companies are:
-Unrestricted participation in CERN calls will open doors to global markets and strengthen the Slovenian innovation ecosystem.
-Access to major technology projects.
-Participation will not be limited to high-tech companies, but will also be open to innovative, development-oriented companies that meet the criteria for supplying specific products or advanced solutions.
-A reputable international reference.
