Science Day

On the initiative of the Committee of the Republic of Slovenia for the Awarding of Prizes and Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research and Development, the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Slovenian Academy of Engineering, the Slovenian Academy of Medicine, the Coordination of Independent Research Institutes of Slovenia and the Rectors' Conference of the Republic of Slovenia have proposed the proclamation of 10 November as a new National Science Day. On this day in 1819, Žiga Zois, a Slovenian enlightened man, scientist, economist, entrepreneur and patron of the arts, who made a significant contribution to the development of science and culture in Slovenia, died.
