A New Slovenian Technical Dictionary Has Been Published
At the end of 2025, ZRC Publishing released a new Slovenian Technical Dictionary. Members of the IAS also contributed to the preparation of the dictionary: Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Gubina and Prof. Dr. Peter Glavič as authors, and Prof. Dr. Mitjan Kalin as an expert reviewer.
Common terminology and a uniform, unambiguous understanding of technical terms facilitate communication both among members of a single discipline and between members of different disciplines. Therefore, efforts to establish uniform terminology can be observed across all professional fields. The new Slovenian Technical Dictionary can also be classified among such efforts.
The Slovenian Technical Dictionary is a comprehensive work; its 909 pages “contain technical terms from 25 fields of expertise, which are listed as headwords in 19,760 dictionary entries” (Slovenski tehniški slovar).
In today’s world, technology is developing at an ever-faster pace and, above all, constantly evolving; new technical terms are constantly emerging, while others fade into obscurity. That is why the new Slovenian Technical Dictionary is truly welcome. The dictionary is available in its entirety online. It is also available in print.
